Wow, so much respect for the doctors and staff of Lady Cilento Hospital. It is a magnificent and brave gesture to draw attention to the plight of refugee children. But I wonder if there is a long term plan. At some point this baby will have to leave the hospital, because beds in a hospital are premium resources. I sincerely hope the staff involved do not suffer professional repercussions later and was reassured today to see the QLD health minister voicing his support for his staff. This is obviously a complex policy area and one that I don’t claim to have a full solution to. It didn’t take the immigration minister- whose reticence to speak on these matters for security reasons seems to be a bit selective- to break this silence and announce to the media that he had intelligence reports that people smuggling was preparing to increase in response to actions of state premiers such as Daniel Andrews and Mike Baird. There is still so much spin and distortion in this debate, but the motivation behind every word that Mr Dutton adds to it seems very clear.
