Mark Latham is an intolerable pig, but thankfully his commitment to freedom of speech and aversion to political correctness means he would have no problem with me saying that. For a time his lack of polish served him well in politics, but it seems like the older he gets, the more bitter, jaded and aggressive he becomes. I was a little surprised any networks were still interested in him after his more recent series of public attacks on domestic violence campaigner, Rosie Batty, and a number of other gaffes, but I shouldn’t have been. Belligerence and manufactured outrage must be quite attractive for networks to continue employing individuals like Andrew Bolt and Steve Price.
But like a resentful, child feeling the need to prove how angry he was, Latham just got worse and worse. After questioning an adolescent’s sexuality on live TV and using the term 'disabled' as a slur against Wendy Harmer, not even Sky News could justify him. Unsurprisingly, Latham was unrepentant, promising to launch his own personal crusade against political correctness and appealing for financial support. Sadly his anger will probably resonate with a certain type of supporter so don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last we hear of him either.
