Given that I have a fairly large appetite and eat nearly twice as much as most people I know, being able to pay less for my groceries has a certain appeal to it. But not when there is a long term cost. I have said on several occasional that if the GST was raised, I would have little objection as long as I could see the proceeds were used to benefit the nation and not just slowly siphoned towards high earners under the somewhat fallacious reasoning of trickle-down economics (which is pretty hard to defend after the Panana Papers).
I was saddened hearing of the plight of Tasmanian dairy farmers having the price of their milk. I have been a bit slow to fully embrace the ‘Buy Tasmanian’ campaign but it is time to put my money where my mouth is and start to change that. I will certainly be staying right away from cut price supermarket milk in future, as well as trying to direct as much of my other commerce to Tasmanian businesses as well.
