What has been going on?
Another really promising month as I build up for my ultra triathlon. Still feel like my recovery is a bit slow and I may lack a yard of pace when running but other than that feeling pretty good. Had a minor scare when my back went one day during a short jog. I think it was probably a result of overtraining it during the week at the gym. Luckily for me it recovered within a few days but it was a good reminder to be careful not to get carried away in the gym, especially now that I am doing so much more running and cycling.
Have upped my distances for running, swimming and riding, generally doing at least two fo those activities on any day other than a rest day.
Did a time trial on 2.4km and was less than 20 seconds slower than before my injury. Have not tried a 10k, but will do that in next few weeks.
Lesson of the Week
Look after your back. I probably went a bit hard in the gym the week I hurt my back, but the speed with which it recovered was a good reminder of the importance of taking recovery seriously.
So as mentioned elsewhere, having done myself a pretty significant injury recently, I feel I am making some really good progress towards being healthy and a number of people have said they enjoyed the previous article. While it seems that the word, 'inspiration,' now belongs to people who post nearly naked photos posing on instagram, I hope this page can continue to be helpful to others. I thought I would keep a bit of a weekly journal of my continued journey (I cringed a little bit as I typed that word, thinking of how often it is used by reality tv contestants), including the progress I am making week to week, the work I am doing towards said progress and my observations of how things are going.
