I am not usually a big fan of public name calling, but Jonny Depp’s recent comments about Barnaby Joyce’s parentage may not be far off the mark. For Joyce to publically assert that the Indonesian government supported people smuggling as a retaliatory action for Australia’s ban on live beef exports was ‘not prime ministerial,’ to use Tony Abbott’s turn of phrase. Actually it is far worse. To publically impugn one of our largest and closest regional neighbours for personal political gain- without any evidence for the statements- is stupid, recklessly irresponsible and self-serving in the extreme. There is no way this man deserves to be our deputy PM, or in parliament at all, and I can only hope the far more impressive Tony Windsor unseats him in the coming election.
