I wrote an article last week and mentioned I expected the government to start working hard to distract us from their performance with some pork-barrelling and the global security situation. A week on a $10 million dollar grant given to the West Coast Eagles to build a new training base right before the Canning by-election, Joe Hockey is talking about how tax cuts and Tony Abbott wants to bomb Syria. Hmmm.
What was that about? In the same week that he signs a multibillion dollar TV rights deal, he says Tasmania can't have a team because it wouldn't be financially viable and then tries to affect an air of disappointment over the matter to seem as if he agrees with those that think it is unfair. I didn't buy it. I'm not passionate about a Tasmanian team, but I am offended by being treated like an idiot. If he thought we deserved a team that badly, the AFL has more than a few dollars spare to support it.
I have no idea how Adam Cooney got a one week suspension for his head high bump on Steven Coniglio. Normally being referred directly to the tribunal is an indication that it is considered particularly serious. Supposedly a character reference from his former coach played some part. What has that got to do with it? Very strange decision, when we see what other players get a 1 week sentence for. But what do I know?
Like any organisation, Quietblog gets excited when the word 'restructure' starts being thrown around. I realised I had more I wanted to write about social issues and was finding the blog format a little more restrictive. For detailed social commentary articles, go here. I will use this page more for shorter observations.
